My SIL's Pregnancy

My sister in law is pregnant and she is having a hard time with the first trimester of her pregnancy. I feel sad for her as she has to face it alone because my brother is working abroad. One of the things that I noticed about my sister-in-law being pregnant is the physical change. Oh, her face is full of acne now and I know how much she hates them. The last time I talked to her, I told her that it is just part of the pregnancy and her hormonal change. I told her also that I experienced the same after I gave birth to my daughter. I remember I had it for more than a month and thankfully I got over them already.

Acne and Pregnancy

Pregnancy can trigger acne or make existing adult acne worse. The higher levels of hormones called androgens are partly responsible for pregnancy breakouts. Androgens can prompt the sebaceous glands to get bigger and boost production of an oily substance called sebum. Acne during pregnancy can be mild, moderate, or even severe, and it can occur at any time during the pregnancy. It may come and go, or it may last the entire pregnancy. Acne in pregnancy is also a case to case basis as their are some women with acne-prone skin report a decrease in breakouts during pregnancy.

There are available acne medication which you can buy over the counter. But if you are pregnant, you need to consult your doctor first before applying any medications as there are medications that won't be safe for your unborn child.
