Career Shift

I was once asked if I want to apply for tech jobs and I politely said no because I felt that my knowledge is no longer up to date. I surely need to know more advanced skills in order to work competitively. Given the fact that I have a computer degree in the Philippines, I still don't think that I will qualify for computer job positions here because I haven't been working in computer for the last 10 years and what I learned is already obsolete at this time. No regrets though, as I have decided that I will no longer pursue a career in computer field. I have decided to shift my interest to a medical field.

Sweet Home Alabama

No, I am not talking about the movie Sweet Home Alabama. I am talking about my home... Alabama. For many, Alabama is just nothing but a sleepy state. I admit, the first time I set foot in Alabama I was shocked as it was not my expectation of what America is. But all these years, I find this place comforting and it is now my home. In here, life is simpler compared to the fast life of the city.

I have a sister who lives near Philadelphia and she asked us if do we ever want to move close to her. She said that finding a philadelphia job is not hard. She is sure that we can find a job easily. The idea seems tempting as I can be close to her but I said NO. Alabama is where our family is and it will be our home sweet home.

My First Job

I was 18 years old when I had my first job. I worked as a cashier in a famous grocery store. When I worked there, POS systems were not yet implemented. We had to do the manual entering of product prices. For items that are not commonly bought by customers, it takes a while to get the price check but for common items, most cashiers know its price already. If you are a new worker, you will just ask the nearest cashier to you and most often than not, they will know the price of an item.

My first job was a great learning experience. I was just a contractual worker so I just held that job for 6 months. I remember how happy I was when I had my first pay. Oh... how I cherished that moment for it was the start of my independence.

For Job Seeker

Searching for a job is the hardest endeavor these days because of our economic situation. There are so many business that can no longer survived that is why they close. Closed business means loss of jobs. There are so many people out there that are looking for job. I am just fortunate that my husband still has a job despite the fact that they are also downsizing.
