Our Recent Travel

Going back home to Philippines is incomparable to me. It is something that I can't seem to express. Some people may not understand but for me, going back home and visiting your family in your home country is more than just the usual seeing each other. The inner bond seeing your biological family is of no equal.

Filipinos are different. We are more family-oriented. Through good times and bad times, families are always there to support each other. This is what I want my daughter to have. I want her to know her Filipino roots. I want her to see and experience different things - the Filipino way. I was more than satisfied, when I saw my daughter and her cousins playing together. I am glad that she also bonded with her grandparents and with my siblings. Seeing her communicating with them is something that is worth the trip.

The trip was brutal. The airplane flight alone is hard. We had to have 4 flights before we reached our hometown. Including the lay-overs, the flight was over 30 hours. Another thing to think about this travel is the cost. International travel is costly. The airfare alone is a huge amount. Hotel and accommodation is another thing plus extra expenses. One person will need a couple of thousands for a trip to Philippines. You can do the math for our family of 3. But it is all worth it. I used our savings and I will pay some of our other expenses little by little. I am not scared to explore payday lending should I need to in order to pay some of our expenses.

I know I have to tighten my spending more after that trip but I tell you, I will do it again and again. The joy in my parents' eyes, the laughter and fun that we shared and all the little things is worth the trip.

Smoky Mountains

Some parts of the US states are already showing fall foliage. In Alabama, there is still no sign of fall foliage in our area. I always wanted to experience a great fall foliage at the Smoky Mountains that is why I asked hubby if we can go for a short trip. I looked at some cabins in the Smoky Mountains, and found out that this time of the year, their rates are not really that high. I would love to stay in a log cabin with cedar furniture should we go to the Smoky Mountains. I wish we will as it is just few hours drive from us. It will be fun for sure.

Climate in Edmonton

Edmonton is the capital of the province of Alberta, Canada. Its climate varies from season to season. Compared to other places, Edmonton has a milder winter climate. Because of its milder winter weather, it is not a surprise that population in this place continues to grow every year. The population may be growing fast in this place but it is still not hard to find rentals in Edmonton.

I have plenty of relatives who are now living in Edmonton. I often communicate with them through phone calls and chat. They love their place and they have been inviting us for a visit. They offered their homes for us to stay so that we won't spend money for hotel rentals and such. It was a really tempting offer especially that they told me that they can bring me to Elk Island National Park. This park is just few minutes away from where they live. I am sure that my daughter will be delighted to see some animals like bison and elk in their natural habitat. They also mentioned the Edmonton River Valley. They told me that we can also check out the beautiful and magnificent Rocky Mountains. With all that possible places to visit, who wouldn't be tempted to visit my relatives in Edmonton?

I would love to visit Edmonton during winter because we never experience a very snowy winter in Alabama. I am sure it will be different in Edmonton. Maybe in the coming years, I will visit them. Not this winter as our family will be traveling to Philippines on January.

Things to do in Spain

I was watching Travel and Living yesterday and Spain is their feature country. The show was full of Spain tourist informatio. I have never been to Spain before but I know that there are lots of beautiful places to visit there and loads of things to do too. They showed some elegant Villas in Spain and I must say their architecture is really something to be proud of. So here the things I picked up from the show. I really wrote them down. Who knows one day this will become handy.

Ski in the Sierra Navada Mountains

During late spring, tourists can go skiing in this area and rent some villas in Costa del Sol afterwards where they can have a good time under the sun.

Immerse in Spanish Art

Pablo Picasso is the most popular Spanish painter and tourists can view his works in the Picasso Foundation in Malaga.

Do the Flamenco

This heel tapping music known as Flamenco is what every tourist should catch in Andalucia and the South of Spain. This will really get you in your feet to dance.

Watch the Best of Football

Real Madrid is coined as the best football team in Europe, and probably in the world. The roster is composed of Figo, Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Raul, Zidane and David Beckham. They have made Real Madrid an unstoppable force in the world of football.

Vacationing in Canada

If I am ever given a chance to visit Canada, I will bring my family to Alberta. I have read so many fascinating things about this province and I am sure my family will enjoy a week or two stay there. Or if our budget and schedule permits, why not make it a month-long vacation? As early as now, I have been reading about Calgary Rentals and I have listed down some of my choices already! Talk about being excited. Hahaha!

Who would not be excited? I just read that Calgary is a popular destination for winter sports. It makes me daydream of skiing in the famous Canada Olympic Park and watch the kids play hockey in their Olympic Oval. We could also go Downtown to eat, immerse ourselves in culture, and even shop! The Heritage Park Historical Village is a must-see so my family can learn about pre-1914 Alberta. I am sure we will be fascinated with the historic vehicles like the steam train, paddle-wheel boat and electric streetcar and the various replica building.

If we will push through with this, I will contact my Filipino friends who live in Canada. Who know, we might have time to hook up for some coffee or dinner.

Christmas Plans...in October!

Guest post written by Dan McCorkel

I like road-trips, but so many hours in the car can be brutal. These days my wife and I tend to get fatigued and tired out if we drive for too long, so it's not as easy for us to put in the long hours on the road that we used to. That's why for the holidays this year, we're finally breaking down and buying plane tickets to Florida (where we go every year to be with the kids) instead. It'll definitely be a new experience for us, but the most important thing is that we get to spend time with my daughter and her wonderful family.

The other day, I put in my Miracle Ear hearing aids and made several calls to friends about airliners to use. I think my wife and I are going to fly with Delta Airlines to Clearwater, Florida and my family is going to pick us up there. We're glad we don't have to let a silly old fear of flying ruin our good times together. In fact, once we do it once (since it's so easy!) I'm sure we'll never travel another way again!

Visiting Florida

I am excited for our Florida vacation early next year. We will be attending the wedding of Dave's niece. If we decide to fly rather than drive, which is more convenient, we will surely need a tampa car rental while we are there.

We are still undecided if we have to fly or drive. Flying will be a little costly but we are not sure if Andrea is ready for over 8 hours road trip. Though she has traveled by road for some long trips like when we went to Mobile, I still think that it will be hard for her to be seating in a car seat driving from Alabama to Florida.

Our decision will be based on how much money we can save for that said trip. I hope we can save more than enough that way we can have fun while in Florida too.

Ferry Rides

Way back, when air fares was still way high and beyond our budget, we ride a ferry going home from Manila to Bohol. On some ferries it will take 29 hours of sea voyage before we reached our port of destinations. Somehow it was fun because big ferries has different cafes, disco rooms and even swimming pools. It is like you are in a cruise.

Because the trip is quite long, you can have the option to explore the ferry. At one time, we befriended some ferry officials that they gave us a tour on the boats machinery. It was a great experience. We were able to see how the ferry is being operated. At the bottom of the ferry lies all the machines that is capable of running the ferry. Evidently there were different types of industrial hand wheels underneath. Those industrial hand wheels are used to adjust a variety of machine functions.

Ferry rides were fun until you will experience typhoon in the middle of your voyage. You can see big waves that will rock the ferry. Delays are expected and depending on how long the delay can be, sometimes the ferry will run out of water which can be really hard.

It has been a while since I rode a ferry. I usually just catch a flight now for more convenience.

North Carolina Vacation

I have never been to North Carolina and I want to go for a vacation there. Perhaps this year we can have a local vacation since our plan for a Philippine trip will be in the next two years. I told my husband that I wanted to explore different states so North Carolina is a good destination since it is not very far from where we are.

I am checking out Outer Banks vacation rentals. I think that if we will be frugal on our spending habits, we can save enough money to spend for a North Carolina vacation. I hope that we can go for a vacation this year.

Now, time to tighten the belt that way we can have a family vacation!

WE are back HOME!

We got home earlier than expected! It was a great trip.

We wanted to come home earlier because of tomorrows trick and treat. We wanted to do our little tradition of going trick and treating with Andrea's Nana and Papa Dan.

I am really excited to come home with a load of fish in the trunk. I can't wait to eat the fish, shrimp, crabs and more....

We got home and the house looks so very welcoming. It is nice to be home again. After Andrea was settled in, I started unpacking our things. WE have a lot of dirty clothes... I have to do laundry (but not now...)

After everything is done, I repacked the fish and shrimps that we got. I can't believe I have so much! Our freezer is almost full of fish and shrimps....

Now, after a long drive and unloading and unpacking... Dave and I are ready for a treat!!!! We feasted on crab legs which we bought in Mobile for a price of just 6.99/lb

A View from the Top

Staying in the 14th floor of Holiday Inn, I was able to capture the view from atop! Mobile is beautiful. From atop the hotel, you can see the downtown Mobile and the Mobile Bay!
