49 years ago, my Tatay and Nanang decided to enter the holy sacrament of Matrimony, to raise a family and to be with each other for better or for worse.

Of their 49 years of togetherness, they have raised 5 girls and 4 boys. They have struggled, they have yelled at each other, tears were shed, and there were lots of heartaches too. Marriage life and raising a family was not a bed of roses for them. In fact, it was more of bed of thorns. Can you imagine raising 9 kids and sending them to school from the meager amount they have? There were countless of days were food was not enough. There were times when the simple hut was not enough to protect the whole family from severe weather conditions. Too much hardship and struggles...

But, there were happy moments, genuine laughs, plenty of hugs and smiles. There were celebrations of success and today, they are reaping the fruits of their struggles. They are now looking at 9 successful children, plenty of grandchildren to adore and a huge house to welcome the whole family whenever there is occasion to celebrate or even when it is just for the weekend visits.

Despite the struggles and plenty of misunderstandings, I am proud that my parents remain strong in their commitment. Today, they are celebrating their 49th Wedding Anniversary. My Tatay and Nanang are not perfect and so are we the kids. We all have our differences but one thing is for sure, when somebody needed any of us, we are always there. We are a FAMILY after all!

To my Nanang and Tatay, I thank you for being a good example. I thank my Mom for being a wonderful wife and mother who is a true inspiration. Their marriage wouldn't be a success if not for their faith and commitment.

I love you both. Happy Anniversary. We are proud of you! I can't wait for next year's big celebration. We promise to be home for your Golden Anniversary!

Really heart-warming post you have here, Lulu! Kakatuwa parents mo. In this age of annulments, trial separations, divorces, and the like...they still managed to rise above it all. 49 years of marriage, that is a REAL achievement! To see all of their children grow up and be productive citizens of society, that's another feather on their cap. Tell them "Congratulations" for me, okay? :)
