Beef Up Your Brains

As we age, we tend to forget things. Every now and then, everybody gets forgetful. On my case, I seem to forget where my cellphone is or my keys.

When people gets older, they often worry on their forgetfulness. Why not, when it could be a clear sign of Alzheimer's disease or Dementia.

Anyway, there are couple of things we can do to keep our brain healthy.

  1. Eat Brain Food. Of course, we often hear the "You are what you eat" line. Healthy eating can make your brain healthy too. Remember that junk foods can also junk your brain. A balanced diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids — found in salmon, walnuts and kiwi fruit — can give the brain a boost and help fight against mental disorders from depression to dementia.
  2. Exercise. Exercise can help trigger the release of chemicals called growth factors that make the brain's neurons stronger and healthier. A workout can also improve your memory, make you think more clearly and decrease the risk of developing cognitive diseases.
  3. Stimulate the Brain. Play brainteasers, crossword puzzles and memory games, this will help your brain become mentally active and it will reduce the risks of developing dementia.
  4. Sleep. Sleep gives the brain a chance to replay the memories of the day and consolidate them for long-term storage.
